Or, quite commonly, you may be building out the next great feature for your app when, suddenly, you need to switch over to a bugfix branch and get a hotfix out the door in an hour. Development is messy and unpredictable you may go down a few parallel rabbit holes, chasing different possibilities, before finding the right solution for a bug. Sure, the staging, committing, branching and merging bits are all well and good, and these features undoubtedly support the nonlinear here-there-and-everywhere process of modern, iterative development.
